Crivando vs WedSites

WedSites alternative: Crivando vs WedSites

Anyone comparing a WedSites alternative is usually weighing one-time pricing against a subscription, so let's do that maths properly. WedSites charges $39, $99 or $199 once, but hosting is only included for 6, 12 or 24 months depending on tier, then it's $5 a month, and online RSVPs don't start until the $99 tier. Crivando is €9 a month with RSVPs on every plan. Here's the full comparison, including where WedSites is genuinely the better tool.

The short version

WedSites' one-time pricing is real but partial: hosting runs out after 6 to 24 months, then $5/mo, and RSVPs need the $99 tier. Its Pro planning tools are genuinely good and it bills in EUR and GBP. Crivando includes RSVPs, a cash fund and photo collection on every plan from €9/mo.

Why couples leave WedSites.

The tier structure, usually. Online RSVP collection isn't in the $39 Basic plan. You need Standard at $99 for RSVPs and the custom questionnaire. The planning tools most people actually came for, the seating chart, budget calculator and timeline builder, are in Pro at $199.

Then hosting. Basic includes 6 months, Standard 12, Pro 24. After that it's $5 a month paid yearly. For most couples the wedding happens inside that window, so it's fine. For a long engagement, or if you want the site up afterwards for the photos, the one-time price quietly stops being one-time.

There's also no native registry and no cash fund, so gifts live elsewhere, and no mobile app. Against that, WedSites bills in EUR, GBP and four other currencies, which makes it more Europe-friendly than most of the US platforms in this category.

Credit where it’s due

Where WedSites beats us.

Planning tools and one-time pricing. The Pro tier's seating chart builder, budget calculator and timeline creator are things we don't offer at all, and for a couple who wants to run the entire wedding from one dashboard that's a genuine advantage. Pro also does multilingual websites, which we don't, since we're English only. And paying once rather than monthly suits plenty of people. If you want wedding planning software with a website attached, that's WedSites, not us.

What Crivando does differently

The things worth paying for, if you’re going to pay. If none of these matter to your wedding, WedSites is the sensible choice and we’d rather you made it.

RSVPs with meal and dietary tracking

Guests search their name and respond. You get attendance, menu selections and allergy requirements in one dashboard, plus a catering summary you can hand straight to the venue.

Nothing taken off your cash gifts

Guests reserve a fund and transfer directly to your bank, PayPal or Venmo. We don't process the payment, so there's no percentage to take. Less slick than tapping a card, and you keep 100%.

Guest photos by QR code, with an approval queue

Print a card for the tables. Guests scan it and upload straight from their camera roll: no app, no account. Nothing appears on your site until you approve it, and you keep the original high-resolution files.

A moderated digital guestbook

Guests write messages from their phone during the reception or the morning after, when they've actually got something to say. You approve each entry before it goes live, and you can export the lot afterwards.

Hosted in the EU, under GDPR

Your guest list, their dietary requirements and their photos sit on EU infrastructure under European data protection rules, rather than on a US platform that also sells them things.

PIN-protected pages

Lock the whole site, or just the parts with your address and registry on them, behind a PIN you give to guests. Search engines don't index it and neither does anyone who wasn't invited.

Moving from WedSites to Crivando.

There's no export button on WedSites, or on most platforms in this category, so this is a copy-paste job rather than a migration. Budget an evening, not a weekend.

Take the guest list out first: names, emails, and any RSVP responses already in. Then the text of each page: your story, the schedule, the FAQ answers you've already written. Those are the bits that took you the longest and they move across unchanged.

Build the new site, check it on a phone, and only then send the new link. Don't take the old site down the same day. Leave it up for a fortnight with a line at the top pointing at the new address, so anyone who bookmarked it isn't stranded.

Which one you should pick

Use WedSites if

You want the seating chart, budget calculator and timeline tools, you'd rather pay once, and your wedding falls inside the included hosting window. Pro at $199 is a solid package.

Use Crivando if

You want RSVPs on the cheapest plan, a cash fund with nothing taken off, guest photo collection, and hosting that doesn't expire mid-engagement.

Straight answers

Is WedSites really a one-time payment?

Partly. The plan is one-time at $39, $99 or $199, but hosting is only included for 6, 12 or 24 months depending on tier. After that it's $5 a month paid yearly. For a wedding inside that window it's genuinely one-time; for a long engagement it isn't.

Which WedSites plan do I need for RSVPs?

Standard, at $99. The $39 Basic tier is the website builder with themes, password protection and analytics, but online RSVP collection and the custom questionnaire start at Standard. Planning tools like the seating chart need Pro at $199. Crivando includes RSVPs on the €9 base plan.

Does WedSites have a cash fund?

No native registry or cash fund. You can link out to registries hosted elsewhere. Crivando includes cash funds where guests transfer directly to your bank, PayPal or Venmo, with nothing taken off, plus links out to external physical registries.

Does WedSites work for European weddings?

Better than most US platforms in this category: it bills in EUR and GBP alongside USD, and Pro supports multilingual websites. It doesn't publish where it hosts data, so if EU data residency matters, that's worth asking them directly. Crivando hosts in the EU under GDPR.

Does Crivando have a free plan?

No, there's no free tier. Plans run from €9 a month for the base site to €23 a month with all 11 add-ons unlocked, which is less than WedSites charges, but it isn't nothing.

How do I move my wedding website from WedSites?

Copy and paste, mostly, since there's no export button on WedSites. Take your guest list and RSVP responses out first, then the text of each page. Build the new site, check it on a phone, then send the new link and leave the old site up for a fortnight pointing at the new address.

Do I need a wedding website at all?

Not always. Thirty guests, one venue, everyone local: a group message does the job and a website is admin you invented for yourself. Websites start earning their place once guests are travelling, or when there are enough of them that you'd otherwise answer the same parking question forty times.
