Crivando vs Wix

Wix wedding website alternative: Crivando vs Wix

The main reason couples want a Wix wedding website alternative is straightforward: the free tier displays Wix's own ads on the site you're sending to a hundred and forty guests. Removing them means a paid plan. Wix also has no wedding registry, no cash fund and no RSVP system that tracks meal choices against a guest list. Crivando is €9 to €23 a month with all of that included and no advertising anywhere. Here's the comparison.

The short version

Wix is a capable general builder with around 71 wedding templates and the cheapest domain here at $9.90/yr. The free tier shows Wix ads on your wedding site, and there's no registry or wedding guest management. Crivando includes RSVPs with dietary tracking, a cash fund and photo collection, ad-free.

Why couples leave Wix.

The ads, mostly. Wix's free tier displays Wix branding and advertising on your wedding website. A wedding website has one job: guests open it, find the answer, close it. Anything competing for attention on that page is working against the only reason you built it.

Then the wedding-specific gaps. No registry or cash fund. No RSVP system that tracks meal choices and dietary requirements against a guest list. No QR photo collection, no guestbook. Wix is a general website builder, and a wedding is a fairly specific job.

What Wix has going for it is real: the cheapest custom domain in this category at $9.90 for the first year, against $24 at WeddingWire and $19.99 at The Knot, and around 71 wedding templates, which is more than most purpose-built platforms offer including us.

Credit where it’s due

Where Wix beats us.

Price, template count and domain cost. Wix has a free tier and we don't. It has around 71 wedding templates against our eight. Its custom domain starts at $9.90 for the first year, the cheapest here. And the drag-and-drop editor gives far more layout control than we do. Our templates are editable, but they are templates. If you want maximum design control for minimum money and you'll pay a small amount to drop the ads, Wix is a reasonable call.

What Crivando does differently

The things worth paying for, if you’re going to pay. If none of these matter to your wedding, Wix is the sensible choice and we’d rather you made it.

RSVPs with meal and dietary tracking

Guests search their name and respond. You get attendance, menu selections and allergy requirements in one dashboard, plus a catering summary you can hand straight to the venue.

Learn more

Nothing taken off your cash gifts

Guests reserve a fund and transfer directly to your bank, PayPal or Venmo. We don't process the payment, so there's no percentage to take. Less slick than tapping a card, and you keep 100%.

Learn more

Guest photos by QR code, with an approval queue

Print a card for the tables. Guests scan it and upload straight from their camera roll: no app, no account. Nothing appears on your site until you approve it, and you keep the original high-resolution files.

Learn more

A moderated digital guestbook

Guests write messages from their phone during the reception or the morning after, when they've actually got something to say. You approve each entry before it goes live, and you can export the lot afterwards.

Nothing sold to your guests

No registry commission, no stationery upsells, no vendor marketing, no ads. Your guest list is a guest list, not an audience. The subscription is the entire business model.

Hosted in the EU, under GDPR

Your guest list, their dietary requirements and their photos sit on EU infrastructure under European data protection rules, rather than on a US platform that also sells them things.

Moving from Wix to Crivando.

There's no export button on Wix, or on most platforms in this category, so this is a copy-paste job rather than a migration. Budget an evening, not a weekend.

Take the guest list out first: names, emails, and any RSVP responses already in. Then the text of each page: your story, the schedule, the FAQ answers you've already written. Those are the bits that took you the longest and they move across unchanged.

Build the new site, check it on a phone, and only then send the new link. Don't take the old site down the same day. Leave it up for a fortnight with a line at the top pointing at the new address, so anyone who bookmarked it isn't stranded.

Which one you should pick

Use Wix if

You already know Wix, you want maximum layout control for minimum spend, and you're happy to build the RSVP handling yourself with a form and a spreadsheet.

Use Crivando if

You don't want advertising on your wedding website, and you want the RSVP tracking, cash fund and guest photo collection to already exist rather than be a weekend project.

Straight answers

Does Wix put ads on wedding websites?

On the free tier, yes. Wix branding and advertising appear on your site. Removing them requires a paid plan. That's the main reason couples comparing free options look elsewhere, since a wedding site is one of the few pages where a stray advert genuinely gets in the way.

Is Wix good for a wedding website?

It's a capable builder with around 71 wedding templates and the cheapest domain in this category, but there's no registry, no cash fund and no wedding guest management. You're getting a website, not a wedding platform, and the RSVP handling is yours to build.

What does Crivando include that Wix doesn't?

RSVPs with meal and dietary tracking plus a catering summary, a cash fund registry that takes 0%, QR guest photo collection with an approval queue, a moderated guestbook, a DJ song wishlist, PIN-protected pages and GDPR-compliant EU hosting. And no ads on any plan.

How much is a Wix custom domain?

From $9.90 for the first year, the cheapest in this comparison: Minted is $15, Zola from $17.99, The Knot $19.99 and WeddingWire $24. Crivando charges €29 one-time plus €5 a month to connect a domain you already own, with free SSL included.

Does Crivando have a free plan?

No. Plans run from €9 a month for the base site to €23 a month with all 11 add-ons unlocked. Wix is free, so if cost is the deciding factor and the differences above don't matter to your wedding, stay where you are. We'd rather say that than sell you something you didn't need.

How do I move my wedding website from Wix?

Copy and paste, mostly, since there's no export button on Wix. Take your guest list and RSVP responses out first, then the text of each page. Build the new site, check it on a phone, then send the new link and leave the old site up for a fortnight pointing at the new address.

Do I need a wedding website at all?

Not always. Thirty guests, one venue, everyone local: a group message does the job and a website is admin you invented for yourself. Websites start earning their place once guests are travelling, or when there are enough of them that you'd otherwise answer the same parking question forty times.
